Depending on the type of cheese being produced it can<br \/>\nbe categorized as \u201csweet whey\u201d or \u201cacid whey\u201d, the latter contains<br \/>\nabout 4.7% organic acids. The objective of this experiment was to<br \/>\ndetermine the response of weanling pigs to 0, 8, 12 or 16% whey in<br \/>\ntheir drinking water and determine if the organic acids supplied in<br \/>\nthe acid whey provided additional benefi t. Diets were formulated<br \/>\nto account for the nutrients in the whey based on intakes from a<br \/>\nprevious experiment. Supplying up to 16% whey in the drinking<br \/>\nwater increased caloric intake and improved growth rate.
