{"id":3638,"date":"2007-01-01T01:01:01","date_gmt":"2007-01-01T01:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/export.maxmaziy.php.nixsolutions.com\/?p=3638"},"modified":"2007-01-01T01:01:01","modified_gmt":"2007-01-01T01:01:01","slug":"process-performance-of-biogas-digesters-incorporating-pre-separated-manure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/prairieswine.com\/rsc\/process-performance-of-biogas-digesters-incorporating-pre-separated-manure\/","title":{"rendered":"Process performance of biogas digesters incorporating pre-separated manure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Solid\u2013liquid separation as a pre-treatment before<br \/>\nanaerobic digestion was tested in a pilot-scale digester,<br \/>\nin which part of the liquid manure was substituted with<br \/>\nthe solids from separation (high-solids digester) and<br \/>\ncompared with anaerobic digestion using liquid manure<br \/>\nalone (reference digester).<br \/>\nThe ratio of CH4 in the biogas averaged 71% in the<br \/>\nreference digester and 65% in the high-solids digester.<br \/>\nSubstitution of slurry with up to 60% solid manure<br \/>\nresulted in a higher gas production per digester volume at<br \/>\n52 \u00b0C than can be achieved by liquid manure alone, thus<br \/>\nthe CH4 yield in terms of digester volume was almost<br \/>\ntwice that in the reference digester during the period with<br \/>\n60% substitution.<br \/>\nHowever, this high ratio of solid matter also increased<br \/>\nthe NH4\u2013N level beyond the normal inhibitory level, to<br \/>\nmore than 5 g L&#8722; 1, giving rise to VFA levels higher than<br \/>\nnormally associated with a stable process, and to a reduced<br \/>\nyield in terms of VS; the yield in the high-solids digester in<br \/>\nterms ofVSwas on average slightly above 200 LCH4 kg&#8722; 1 VS, compared to the level of 320 L CH4 kg&#8722; 1 VS in the<br \/>\nreference digester, which indicated an inhibition of the<br \/>\nprocess in the high-solids digester.
