\nmanagement regulations, the Grenier family hog operation
\nrecently turned to technology company Envirogain and its system
\nof converting manure into organic fertilizer.
\nIn the Canadian province of Quebec, which has a major hog
\nindustry, the manure problem has become so severe that a
\nmoratorium has been placed on the expansion of pig farms. In
\nregions which have been found to have too much phosphorus in
\nthe soil because of manure application, pork producers have been
\nforced to find other areas\u2014often more than 50 kilometres from
\ntheir breeding sites\u2014to spread pig manure. While the challenge to meet these requirements is great, help is
\ncoming thanks to a new hog manure treatment system that is
\nbeing developed, marketed and operated by Envirogain, a
\ntechnology firm in Saint Romuald, on the south shore of Quebec
\nCity. After five years of research on an experimental site, the firm
\nis marketing a technology that will allow hog operations to
\ncontinue production, and not have to be concerned about looking
