Nine were then further studied to measure<br \/>\nthe degree of antibacterial effects and stability at low<br \/>\npH (the acidity level found in pig stomachs), and to determine<br \/>\nwhether they had any negative effect on the growth<br \/>\nof beneficial gut bacteria. The researchers have compared different forms of<br \/>\nessential oils \u2013 dry powder and liquid suspension \u2013 and have<br \/>\nfound dry powder preferable as it is easy to store, handle and<br \/>\ndistribute. Using dry powder also makes it easy to control<br \/>\nthe dosage and, in addition, it can be applied to a premix,<br \/>\nthen added to feed.<br \/>\nThis year, the research team will carry out tests on<br \/>\nthe antimicrobial activity of their developed essential oil<br \/>\ncapsules when they are mixed with feed and exposed to<br \/>\nsimulated digestion.
