As a consequence, traits referring to meat quality are of increasing relevance<br \/>\nfor the pork industry. Therefore, the objective of this study is to estimate genetic parameters<br \/>\nfor carcass and meat quality traits that are<br \/>\nof practical relevance in combination with information<br \/>\nfrom current or intended classification systems.  It was found that selection for growth rate will have adverse consequences for meat quality based on<br \/>\nthe high unfavorable correlations found between average<br \/>\ndaily gain and most quality traits considered. Furthermore,<br \/>\nselection for growth rate is negatively correlated<br \/>\nwith (sub)primal cut yield and will therefore not<br \/>\nautomatically lead to increased cut weights. However,<br \/>\nselection towards increased carcass value by increasing<br \/>\n(sub)primal weights with improved quality will<br \/>\nclearly be feasible based on the correlations that were<br \/>\nfound between most meat quality traits and (sub)primal<br \/>\ncuts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consumer demands regarding food of animal origin are of growing importance.
