In this study we analysed the impact of
\nagglomeration externalities, input and output market
\naccess, and environmental regulations on the location
\nof pig production in 1999 and 2004 in Denmark. The
\nresults show that spatial externalities are important for
\nlocation of pig production, i.e. pig farms have higher
\nprofit if there is a high concentration of pigs in the
\nneighbourhood. This indicates that pig farms benefit
\nfrom input sharing, labour pool matching and
\nknowledge spillovers. On the other hand, we found no
\nor only a week effect of input and output accessibility.
\nHowever, we did not expect to find a strong effect of
\naccessibility of slaughterhouses due to the
\norganisational structure of the Danish slaughterhouse
\nsector, i.e. farmer-owned slaughterhouses and farmers\u2019
\ndistance-independent payment of transport costs. The
\nlacking impact on location of input accessibility may
\nbe caused by weak instruments for the accessibility of
\nindustrial feed. Finally, we found that the
\nenvironmental regulations imply a negative
\nagglomeration externality. The econometrical analysis
\nshowed that it is important to consider that
\nexplanatory variables in a location model may be
\nendogenous. The analysis showed also that it is also
\nimportant to consider the potential spatial dependence
