{"id":7472,"date":"2011-07-14T16:02:23","date_gmt":"2011-07-14T16:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/prairieswine.com\/rsc\/?p=7472"},"modified":"2011-07-14T16:02:23","modified_gmt":"2011-07-14T16:02:23","slug":"news-and-views-saskatchewan-slaughter-plant-remains-on-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/prairieswine.com\/rsc\/news-and-views-saskatchewan-slaughter-plant-remains-on-track\/","title":{"rendered":"News and Views &#8211; Saskatchewan slaughter plant remains on track"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Chair of the Saskatchewan Slaughter Plant Initiative says that efforts to bring a new primary pork processing plant to Saskatchewan remain on target for a projected September 2009 opening. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Partners in the project include Saskatchewan First Nations, the Saskatchewan Pork Development Board and Big Sky Farms.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The proposed new plant will be located in Saskatoon\u2019s north industrial area and have an initial capacity of one million head per year, expandable to two million head on a double shift. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\">Initiative Chair Jim Ramsay says an extensive evaluation shows the plan is economically feasible and <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">that it is a sound business concept.<\/span><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"> \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">We took an extra month to make sure that we had full consideration of the pressures that are in the industry and we reworked the numbers a couple of times over just to make sure we had a good conservative view of what was happening to see if this was based on sound business principles,\u201d he explains. \u201cOur plan was to get things going into the summer, possibly into the fall with opening in September of 2009 and we have not had to adjust those dates as of yet.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Ramsay says the business development process focused on marketing and there is interest being expressed by potential marketing partners.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He notes discussions aimed at securing the 100 million dollars needed to finance the first stage of development are underway and remain on track. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chair of the Saskatchewan Slaughter Plant Initiative says that efforts to bring a new primary pork processing plant to Saskatchewan remain on target for a projected September 2009 opening.
