Researchers Get Testy with Airborne Pathogens
Airborne pathogens can occasionally elude biosecurity measures and are an economic burden for producers. Various filtration devices were tested on how effective they were at reducing the risk of airborne pathogens. A testing platform was built to evaluate different filter and pre-filter combinations against virulent Streptococcus suis serotype 2, PRRSv and influenza. This could have a large impact on the swine industry as the platform can be used to help design filtration systems that are affordable and determine how efficient used filters are to possibly reduce the replacement rate.
