Rapid PEDv Test Earns Top Marks
A faster, easier and cheaper method to detect Porcine Endemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) is being developed that uses a molecular diagnostic platform called the Accutas™. This test can be done on the farm with very fast results (1-2 hours) so it is cheap to do and not time consuming. It detects if pathogenic RNA or DNA are present in a fecal or blood sample. This device works for porcine circovirus and PRRS and is being developed for PEDv. It can be used in an outbreak to diminish the chances of transmission to other farms or it can be used as a surveillance tool to stay on top of things in the barn.
