Western Canada is the worlds largest producer of flaxseed. Flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Using flaxseed in swine diets could be a low-cost feeding protocol that enriches the carcass with omega-3. It is comparable to canola meal other than its low lysine content and higher DE and NE values. A 50:50 field pea: flaxseed product, LinPro is rich in omega-3 and feeding up to 15% for 8 weeks had no effect on performance. It had the same levels of omega-3 in the backfat as flaxseed oil supplementation.
