Vaccines and our social license to produce pork

Posted in: Pork Insight Articles, Production by admin on June 6, 2017

Summary & conclusions
 Direct relationship between antibiotic use and drug resistance.
Few new products are anticipated in the future.
 Vaccine usage will and should increase on farms as long as the
vaccines remain effective.
 Increased vaccine use should help to build social licence, but
some consumers are reluctant to eat pork from vaccinated hogs.
 More research is needed to develop effective vaccines for
economically important diseases (today and in the future).
 Decision making on large and small farms should not be
disconnected from the social licence to raise pork.
