(PSCI), a non-profit corporation affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan and located near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, is inviting applications for one M.Sc. or Ph.D. graduate student to conduct research on developing an innovative air cleaning system for swine production buildings. The research work will build on completed and on-going activities in this project which include initial design and testing of an air treatment unit based on biotrickling filters, and optimization and scale-up of the prototype model to a commercial-scale unit. The selected applicant will be involved with the evaluation of the operating characteristics of the commercial-scale unit in an actual swine barn as well as its impact on levels of gases, odour, and dust emissions, and animal performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual committed to pursuing a post-graduate degree and a subsequent research career. Research work will be conducted within the Engineering Research program at PSCI. Graduate Research Assistantship amounting to CAN$17,500 to $20,000 per year (plus benefits) is available to the successful candidate; this can be supplemented by competing for existing scholarships within the Department and the University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">PSCI is a unique non-profit corporation, engaged in research, technology transfer and education. With a 300-sow farrow-to-finish swine unit, recently expanded and upgraded office facilities, and access to outstanding laboratories at the University of Saskatchewan, the Centre offers a modern, dynamic research environment for graduate studies. Our facilities were further enhanced with the opening of a new sow research barn in June 2008.
