It is proposed that the multiple-component neural\u00a0network model be extended to make use of multiple-component multiple-factor analysis. First, a neural network model and a\u00a0linear multiple regression model are developed and compared using multiple-component analysis to demonstrate the better\u00a0modelling technique for pork farm odour.\u00a0The odour samples were collected using a vacuum\u00a0box fitted with a pump to draw air into 10 L Tedlar\u00a0bags. The odour dilution threshold was determined\u00a0within 48 h of sampling using trained human assessors\u00a0and a dynamic olfactometer.\u00a0Approximately 20% of the samples, or 26 data points,\u00a0were randomly selected for model testing and the\u00a0remaining 80% of the samples, or 105 data points,\u00a0were used for model development.\u00a0The neural network model of the pork farm odour yielded more accurate and precise\u00a0odour intensity predictions than the linear multiple regression models, indicating that neural networks are the better modelling\u00a0technique for this application. Subsequently, a multiple-component multiple-factor neural network model was developed and\u00a0compared with the multiple-component neural network. The multiple-component multiple-factor neural network model\u00a0generated performance gains, indicating that this approach is relevant to modelling pork farm odour.\u00a0The multiplecomponent\u00a0neural network model provided better\u00a0performance than the corresponding linear multiple\u00a0regression model.
